You can now help support CEW member Amanda Barlow to create a wellbeing centre in the county when you purchase the 2012 Made for Life calendar.
Amanda has established the Made for Life Foundation to create a centre for wellbeing and in support of people with or recovering from cancer in the county, and to provide support days, currently for women, such as spa treatments (using products by Spiezia Organics, one of Amanda's other businesses), yoga, and meditation.
The calendar aims to raise proceeds towards this.
CEW's women's enterprise coordinator Josie Purcell also got on board to help Amanda with the concept for, and editorial in, the calendar.
She said: "Amanda has been an active member of CEW and we were chatting about her plans for the future when she mentioned she was just about to arrange the photography for the 2012 Made For Life calendar. As a professional photographer and journalist by background I offered to help out and ended up giving art direction advice to the calendar's keen photographer, Mark, and editorial support. I really wanted to get involved as my father passed away due to cancer a few years ago so I feel Amanda's plan for a centre to help those affected by this disease needs all the support it can get."
The pictures have all been based on iconic and timeless images to evoke an overall classic feel in black and white.
All of the female models have had breast cancer or are under-going treatment. They all shared their personal journeys and experiences of what cancer has meant to them in a short statement to go with their individual image.
They have also attended Made for Life one-day events, which have included art therapy, dance and exercise programmes. These events take place all over the country and are sponsored by organisations with links to the health and wellbeing sector, including Harvey Nichols, Budock Vean Hotel and the luxury Sail Lofts apartments in St Ives.
“So much goodwill goes into this calendar and all money raised from sales goes to supporting future Made for Life events,” Amanda said. “This calendar puts all the little issues we face on a daily basis into perspective – these women have all been through the most tumultuous time and they are absolutely inspiring. No-one needs to be alone and sharing experiences with other people in an intimate and safe environment can help improve a sense of wellbeing. Made for Life days work at a deep level but are also very much about hugs and love and laughter.”
The Made for Life calendar costs £7.50 and goes on sale from Sept 30th through the Spiezia Organics website, www.spieziaorganics.com, which also has full details of the Made for Life Foundation.
There will also be a major celebration of the calendar and Made For Life at its sold-out ball on Friday, September 30.
Made for Life Foundation is a registered charity - number 1138846.
