Celebrating Women in Business

On Thursday 5th March 2015 nearly 200 women filled the main auditorium at The British Library for the Celebrating Women in Business Conference. The event brought ambitious female entrepreneurs together to celebrate International Women’s Day 2015, the theme – Make it Happen.

The conference, sponsored by the Government Equalities Office saw the day open with keynote speeches from The Rt Hon Nicky Morgan MP, Secretary of State for Education and Minister for Women and Equalities and The Rt Hon Lord Young of Graffham.

Nicky Morgan told us that small businesses are the life blood of our nation and that it was important to dispel the myth that entrepreneurs should look, act and do business in a certain way.

Lord Young, Enterprise Advisor to the Prime Minister said this is the golden age for small firms – there has never been a better time to start and grow a business.

Entrepreneurs Penny Power OBE, The Business Café, Brynne Herbert, MOVE guides and Sarah Weller, Mubaloo all gave top tips and advice on how they made their businesses a success.

The afternoon saw fantastic masterclasses given by our very own Eileen Lennon on “Building Tribes”, Leadership & Loyalty. Eileen gave top tips on how to build the best team and inspire them to deliver.

Emma Jones, Founder of Enterprise Nation gave a masterclass on ‘How to grow your business and confidence in 2015. She gave an insight into how to develop the right skills and experience to grow your business in 2015.

Kate Doodson from Cosmic Ethical IT explained how using digital apps can transform the way you do business. This presentation also featured some of the best case studies from the Women in Broadband project.
